Growing up in Los Angeles with parents in the entertainment industry, Alice was constantly exposed to professional makeup artists practicing their craft every day. Alice was left in awe of the work these artists would produce, whether it was an actor from a show or her own mother for an event. She gained a huge appreciation for the craft and ventured into the world of art herself through school and extracurriculars.
Although she has always had a passion for makeup, Alice’s journey to becoming a professional artist did not begin until a bit later in life. She spent most of her teenage years with makeup as a hobby and academics as her career. Alice continued down that path and planned to attend a traditional four year college. About two and a half years into Boston University, Alice’s passion for school decreased and she knew that was not the right path anymore.
Alice returned to LA with a plan to reignite her passion for art. She looked at a couple of different schooling options to further her artistry. She was quite stumped on her journey until she found Make-up Designory in the winter of 2019. From her first glance at the website, she was sold and knew that was where she had to be. It took a few phone calls and a tour and she had officially applied to become a student there.
Her journey to become a professional makeup artist finally began in February 2020 at Make-up Designory in the Master Class Program. Everything was going smoothly until March 11th, the day that will live in infamy. Coronavirus had entered the US and put a halt on everyone’s lives. Like the rest of the world, Make-up Designory shut down with no idea of when they would return. During the pandemic, Alice took up other artistic side hustles but nothing was sticking like she knew makeup would. As most will agree, 2020 was a very difficult year for many reasons. Alice spent a lot of time in the dark with no concept of when she could return to school again.
Until...March 2021 when she received THE call that school was officially coming back in May. Alice says she will never forget that moment and the fire it lit underneath her to put all her time and energy into her education and artistry. She returned to school in May 2021 and completed the Master Program in November 2021. Although it was very difficult for Alice to leave school and live in the unknown of a pandemic, she found that it made her more considerate of others and more passionate than ever about makeup artistry. She is so grateful for the lessons she has taken from her time off and in school.
Following the pandemic and everything she has been through in her journey, Alice’s priorities about herself as a makeup artist have changed. One thing about her work that she has learned to cherish is the relationship she has with her clients. Whether it be someone she has been working with for years or a new face, Alice always wants to make sure that the person in her chair feels comfortable. It could be a five day project or a one hour application, Alice’s clients are always her number one priority.
Alice has been trained in all disciplines. From airbrush to special fx, natural to glam, runwway to photoshoots. She has worked professionally for celebrity makeup artists, done various “do & go’s,” and has been key makeup artist on multiple short films. Alice is dedicated to using makeup, creativity, and social skills to collaborate and make a vision come to life.
